Trastero (storage room) makeovers, start to finish
The trastero often becomes the place where things go “until we need them”. There's dust, cobwebs, flaking walls and a dim bulb, and finding anything is impossible. We take a storage room like that and turn it into a bright space with shelving made to your measurements, where everything has its place and every centimetre of height is used. We do trastero makeovers across the Costa del Sol: in Málaga, Marbella, Estepona, Benahavís, Mijas, Fuengirola and Benalmádena.

We measure the room and plan the shelves so suitcases, boxes and the bike fit snugly, right up to the ceiling.
“Before” and “after” photos
We record the starting point and hand over the finished room with a photo report. Handy if you don't live in Spain.

What I do
Clear-out and rubbish removal
Together we decide what to keep, give away or throw out. Anything unwanted goes to the punto limpio (municipal recycling centre).
Cleaning and preparation
We remove dust and cobwebs, wash the floor, treat rust on doors and metal parts, and check for damp.
Painting walls and ceiling
Light, washable paint, with anti-mould primer where needed. The room instantly looks cleaner and bigger.
Lighting and a socket
We swap the dim bulb for LED panels or an LED strip, with a motion sensor if you like. With the community administrator's approval, we add a socket.
Shelving installation
Metal shelving with adjustable shelves, fixed to the wall so nothing tips over. Plus bike hooks and a pegboard for tools.
Organised storage
We choose clear boxes and containers and sort your things by category: seasonal clothes, sports kit, tools, suitcases, Christmas decorations. Every box gets a label.

The basement trastero was packed with boxes right up to the door. We sorted through everything with the owners, took away what they didn't need, painted the walls and fitted LED lighting and floor-to-ceiling shelving. Every box is now labelled.

This storage room near the sea smelt damp and things were getting ruined. We treated the walls with an anti-mould solution, painted them with breathable paint and put up shelving and hooks for bikes and paddleboards.

FAQ
Questions and answers
Do I need the community's permission to paint and add lighting in my trastero?
Painting inside your own storage room doesn't usually need permission. A new socket or light connected to your own supply or the communal one is only fitted with the agreement of the administrador de la comunidad (community administrator). We'll tell you how to go about it.
What can be done about damp and a musty smell?
Basement trasteros near the sea are often damp. We treat the walls with anti-mould primer, use breathable paint, and recommend a moisture absorber or a ventilation grille. We store your things in sealed plastic boxes rather than cardboard.
Can it all be done without me there?
Yes. Just hand over the key and mark on photos anything that definitely mustn't be thrown away. Before taking anything away we'll send you a list on WhatsApp to confirm, and a photo report at the end.
What shelving is best for a storage room?
Galvanised or powder-coated metal with adjustable shelves: it doesn't mind damp and takes 150–250 kg per shelf. We don't recommend wooden shelving in a basement. The unit is always fixed to the wall.
How long does the work take?
A complete 4–6 m² storage room usually takes 2–3 days, allowing for the paint to dry. If you only need shelving fitted and things sorted, one day is enough.
