Solar panels

Solar panel installation on the Costa del Sol, start to finish

The Costa del Sol gets around 2,900 hours of sunshine a year – one of the best figures in Europe. A rooftop solar system covers most of your electricity bill, and the surplus is sold back to the grid. I take care of the whole process: sizing the system, choosing the equipment, installation, connection, setting up the app and the paperwork. I install solar panels across the Costa del Sol: in Málaga, Marbella, Estepona, Benahavís, Mijas, Fuengirola and Benalmádena.

How it works

How a project runs

  1. 01

    Bills and roof photos

You send me a year's electricity bills and photos of the roof, and I do a preliminary calculation.

  2. 02

    Survey and design

I come out to check the roof, the fuse box and any shading, then prepare the design and a quote.

  3. 03

    Permits

We notify the town hall. Many municipalities offer a discount on ICIO (the tax on building works).

  4. 04

    Installation in 1–3 days

We install the panels, inverter and battery and connect them to the fuse box.

  5. 05

    Switch-on and registration

We set up the app, register the installation and activate surplus compensation.

Good to know

Incentives and savings in 2026

Surplus compensation

Energy you don't use during the day goes into the grid and is deducted from your bill. In 2026, surplus energy is worth around €0.13–€0.27 per kWh, depending on the time of day.

ICIO discount

The tax on building works is reduced for solar installations: by up to 95% in Marbella and Málaga, and by 50% in Estepona and Fuengirola.

IRPF tax relief

Spanish tax residents can claim income tax (IRPF) deductions for improving the energy efficiency of their main home or a home they rent out. We check the conditions and deadlines with your gestor.

IBI

Not every town hall offers a property tax (IBI) rebate, and where it exists it usually runs for 3–5 years: Torremolinos, for example, gives 50% for 3 years, and Vélez-Málaga also has one. Marbella and Estepona don't offer one at the moment.

FAQ

Questions and answers

Is my roof suitable?

A south or south-west facing roof with no shade from neighbouring buildings or trees is ideal. Flat roofs work too – the panels go on angled frames. For an apartment in a block, you'll need the agreement of the community of owners.

Do I need a battery?

Not necessarily. Without a battery, your surplus is sold to the grid under the compensation scheme. A battery pays off if you use a lot of power in the evening or want backup during power cuts. It can be added later.

Who handles the paperwork?

The registration and certificate are signed by an authorised partner engineer. You get the full set of documents, with surplus compensation up and running.

What happens to the panels when Saharan dust (calima) blows in?

Output drops after a calima. Cleaning once or twice a year helps, and it's included in maintenance.
